I utilise my extensive experience as a teacher of SEND in specialist schools to provide personalised support to students with a range of complex additional needs. I work with all ages from 4-19. Having been a SEND teacher for 15 years I am knowledgeable in all aspects of the curriculum from KS1-3 and have taught functional skills from E3 to L2 in English, Maths and ICT.
I have a calm, friendly and professional personality which means I am able to quickly build rapport with children and young people, I am able to use humour and interests to boost confidence.
I have over 10 years experience using Makaton in lessons and offer a Total Communication approach (Signs, Symbols and Sounds) incorporating songs and rhymes to build confidence, self esteem and rapport.
I currently tutor 7 children from ages 4 - 16 on a weekly basis, both online and face to face. I mostly offer support with mental arithmetic, phonics, numeracy, reading, spelling and writing.
My qualifications include:
QTLS (equivalent to QTS)
PGDTLLS (Professional Graduate Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science 2:1
I have an enhanced DBS.
I am fully trained in Safeguarding, PREVENT, KCSIE, PBS (Positive Behaviour Strategies) and Trauma Informed Practices.
I have worked with learners with a range of additional needs including, but not limited to - ADHD, ASD, PDA, Downs Syndrome, Global Development Delay, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome.
I am also a Mental Health First Aider and have awareness of cPTSD, anxiety, depression, self harm etc.
